Basic and Essential Surgical Skills Training (BESST)
BESST is a 3-day course designed to provide introduction to safe surgical practice within a controlled workshop environment. The course is aimed at Senior House Officers and Junior Registrars.
The course covers:
- Basic surgical techniques
- Trauma and orthopaedics
- Minimal access surgery
Features include:
- Intensive hands-on practice of basic skills
- Individual tuition
- Personal feedback on performance, with advice for further practice
- Course material
- Certification recognized by The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa
Please note that due to high volume of applications UCT receives per year, only a maximum of 16 participants will be accepted per course in 2023. Positions will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
